Several patient advocacy groups released a statement today regarding the fight to restore prescriber prevails in the NYS Budget.
The final budget was just approved this afternoon and it allows providers to have the final say in deciding on a medication regimen – but only in regard to atypical antipsyschotic medications.
Advocacy groups are glad patient protections were restored to the mental health community, but also stress that they will continue to fight for a universal prescriber prevails policy. A policy that applies to all disease states is the only way to properly address health care access issues existing in New York.
Here is the statement.
